![]() ![]() Somehow in the midst of a drama about a serial killer the writers still managed to give a fun-filled romantic comedy. This is one show which kooriyuki surprisingly doesn’t put on the backburner to become her ever-increasing backlog. Especially if you were able to give me a visually interesting drama with some entertaining characters to go along with it. Honestly, character development is usually a huge thing for me, but if you have a good enough story to entertain me, I’m willing to look past a few holes. All other issues were caused by outside forces working to rip them apart, namely a kidnapping serial killer. This break up really only happened because Cho Rim felt personally responsible for the death of his sister, but once we got over that hurdle, our couple was more or less lovey-dovey for the rest of the drama. However, the writers spared us on that one, leaving us with only sickeningly sweet rom-com-esque scenes with Cho Rim and Moo Gak to get us through the quiet times of the drama.īetter yet, they had only one major break up (a classic staple of the drama). If I had to suffer through a love triangle during this murder thriller I might have lost it a little bit. For those of you new to dramas, a second male lead is known as the second love interest, or the one who doesn’t get the girl in the end. I don’t think I could have handled a second male lead for this particular drama. There was no second lead! Thank the heavens for that. (And one of them does.) The profiler, Yeom Mi, ends up in the lion’s den, all for the sake of not having Cho Rim sacrificed to the killer, and probably to get a better idea of who the killer is out of pure interest as a profiler. They end up making one big happy family that would, quite literally, put themselves in the line of danger for each other. Honestly, there are only a few very competent cops and when the competent ones are incapacitated you really wonder how this police station functions. So, while you’re sitting there squirming because you know not only who the killer is, but how he did it, the police are running around like confused children. They show you exactly how the killer did it before having the police find evidence to track him down. Chalk that up to good use of music and camera angles. When you believe you’ve finally decided on the killer, the writers swing it around leaving you wonder how you ever thought it could have been any one else, or rather why certain people were acting so sketchy when they were never really guilty of anything in the first place. ![]() Honestly, this drama keeps you on your toes from the very first scene, starting with the murder of Oh Cho Rim’s parents and running all the way to the resolution of the barcode murderer’s fate. Each face morphing to be a different face, never settling on one, helps us to realize that he really could have had no clue who he’s looking at, and solidifies that he’s the killer. This visual was fascinating, and quite honestly freaked me out the first time it happened with no explanation. While I wouldn’t really classify it as synesthesia, I would put the killer’s inability tell faces apart (prosopagnosia or face-blindness) within this category as well since it’s part of how they showed neurological things. Even when he’s stabbed in the stomach he brushes it off as somebody just bumping into him only realizing his injury when he gets dizzy and blood starts coming from the wound. ![]() Moo Gak’s inability to feel senses is interesting as well and is right away shown as a fact that will at some point cause problems, as most major character traits in dramas do. Each of these is unique making it interesting each time a new smell is presented from her point of view. Oh Cho Rim’s ability to see smells is presented as showing she can see tiny symbols, almost like mini clip art representations for each item that she is “smelling.” For instance, a dog is a paw print, sweat is water droplets, soju is a specific component of the alcohol, and most importantly the drug that is used to suffocate the victims is a specific image as well. ![]()
